Description The aim of the essay is to analyse your chosen commodity in terms of its place in the production of identities of various sorts – class, gender, ethnic, national etc. In the second part of the course we will be looking at the theory of Pierre Bourdieu, because it is useful for thinking about the relationship between food, identity and the social order, and this is the theoretical framework you will use in your essay. We will have much more discussion about this essay later in the course, and there is a worksheet and more instructions on the Stream site. As with the commodity chain essay, you will need to focus on a particular society/culture at a particular time and place
